Venable Expands Its New York Tax and Wealth Planning Practice with the Addition of Ani Hovanessian

New York, NY (November 5, 2018) – Venable LLP is pleased to announce that Ani C. Hovanessian has joined the firm as a partner and as chair of the New York Tax and Wealth Planning Practice.

Ms. Hovanessian serves as personal general counsel to high-net-worth individuals, such as private equity, hedge fund, and venture capital principals; executives of privately and publicly held businesses; entrepreneurs; art collectors; and real estate families, on the complexities of strategic wealth transference, estate planning, asset protection, and business planning. She has substantial experience implementing sophisticated strategies and family governance structures to educate and involve successive generations on the stewardship of wealth.

Michele M. Mulrooney, chair of Venable's West Coast Tax and Wealth Planning Practice, led the firm's efforts to establish a New York Tax and Wealth Planning Practice to match their nationwide experience and capabilities. "We at Venable are extremely fortunate to have Ani assume responsibility for running and further building our New York estate planning practice. Besides Ani's deep knowledge in the area, her warmth and dynamic energy for her clients makes her a perfect fit for Venable."

Stuart P. Ingis, chairman of Venable, added that "Ani's experience, client base, and advocacy as a trusted advisor to her clients will bolster our existing capabilities in advising high-net-worth clients."

Ani has joined the firm just after the hiring of Larry D. Mandelker, counsel in Tax and Wealth Planning. Venable will expand the team with the addition of an associate and paralegal in the upcoming months. "Venable is committed to adding the top tax and wealth planning advisors in New York to establish a premier practice reflective of our nationwide capabilities," said Matthew T. McLaughlin, partner-in-charge of the firm's New York office.

Commenting on her move to Venable, Ms. Hovanessian said, "My clients become part of my family, and, as their trusted advisor, I am committed to serving their best interests. Without doubt, joining Michele and the powerhouse Venable partners throughout the country provides enormous value to my practice. I am incredibly charged and inspired to continue providing sophisticated services and a robust Venable platform as we embrace more clients and welcome them into our family."

Ms. Hovanessian received her J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1995 and her B.A. Phi Beta Kappa with distinction in Political Science and Psychology from Stanford University in 1992.

At Venable, Ms. Hovanessian joins a rapidly growing Tax and Wealth Planning Practice that has seen several high-profile additions across the country in the past few years. With more than 60 attorneys nationwide, the group has a number of top-ranked attorneys concentrating on domestic and international tax; sophisticated estate planning, which includes the preservation and protection of wealth for generations of families; the establishment and advising of private foundations; and other services for high-net-worth clients and family offices.
