Venable partner George Kostolampros was quoted in an October 11, 2016 Bloomberg BNA article on the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) record number of enforcement actions in fiscal 2016. The SEC said it had brought 868, up from 807 in fiscal 2015 and and 755 in fiscal 2014.
Kostolampros said the spike in filings "doesn't surprise" him, and that it "is due to the agency's so-called broken windows approach of pursuing all infractions, no matter how small." He added, "Several years ago, many of the smaller cases would have been handled through a deficiency letter."
